DEHNventil: The Original. Half the size, all the power.

Power non-stop.

DEHNventil represents a milestone from DEHN in the development of lightning and surge protection and has been a powerful lightning current arrester since 1983. It is now available in a new slim design with a compact single module and integrated remote signalling contact as standard. DEHNventil M2, the compact combined arrester, type 1+2+3, as per EN 61643-11, reliably protects against transient overvoltages in low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies.

Supply reliability has become one of the most important factors for companies in choosing a location. Also important is that companies have a power supply infrastructure available that meets the strictest requirements of availability. Despite the reliability of supply achieved nowadays by utility companies and grid operators, further measures are necessary in consumer installations to meet the very high demands for availability made by telecommunication installations, hospitals, data centres, production plants and many more places. The provision of emergency power generators, buffering of the electricity supply using UPS systems and separate incoming supplies that work independently of each other for such installations are some of the measures taken in consumer installations for increasing the reliability of supply. In order to this equipment to work as intended, possible sources of interference must be eliminated. This is where the new DEHNventil M2 comes in.

As a tested combined arrester, type 1+2+3, as per EN 61643-11, DEHNventil M2 safeguards installations and terminal equipment within 10 metres of cable length from partial lightning currents and surges – and all of that with a width of max. 4 standard DIN modules. The compact arrester thus takes on the tasks of lightning equipotential bonding, surge protection and the protection of terminal equipment in just one device. Connected terminal equipment is unburdened, preventing damage and premature ageing. This reduces the costs associated with sourcing new components and installation work. With DEHNventil M2, systems remain available and processes continue running.

Compact design – more space in the switchgear cabinet

With a width equivalent to only 4 standard DIN modules, the DEHNventil M2 creates spare space in the switchgear cabinet. For planning engineers, this means more space for future components or the option of choosing a smaller switchgear cabinet. For practitioners, too, the advantages are obvious. The protection components are easier to install since more installation space is available. The small design opens up new opportunities for optimally exploiting the available space. For example, lateral installation is also possible, which often makes it easier to comply with the 0.5-metre cable length. With the marking provided in mirrored form, 180°-rotated installations are also possible.

RAC spark gap technology – extra performance

The mains-follow-current-limiting RAC spark gap responds especially quickly. It impresses with a maximum follow current extinguishing capability of up to 100 kArms and extremely low residual energies. It limits the incoming energy like a wave breaker and protects important electrical loads. The impact on sensitive downstream terminal equipment and systems is minimised and their service lives are thus extended. Advantages are a low voltage protection level UP and the lowest residual energies. This means: After the extremely quick ignition of the spark gap, surges are safely limited to values below the voltage protection level UP = 1.5 kV for the duration of the impulse current that arises during dissipation. This minor loading by the residual voltage is ensured both for short impulse currents and for comparatively longer-lasting lightning current loads – terminal equipment and systems are preserved to the fullest extent. Surges are safely dissipated without provoking accidental tripping of surge protection equipment – a big advantage when it comes to the reliability of supply.

Compact single module – fit for the future

Often just a few centimetres dictate which switchgear cabinet size is necessary. Due to the compact design of the DEHNventil M2, spare installation space is created for more components, so you can accommodate future developments. With a width of just 4 standard DIN modules, the compact combined arrester, type 1+2+3, protects against transient overvoltages in low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies.

One-hand operation is practical for module replacements. With a spring-supported plug-in block, replacement is quick, safe and effortless. After replacement, all modes of protection are at full performance capability once again. This prevents gaps in protection and extends maintenance intervals. Also, all DEHNventil M2 models now have an integrated remote signalling contact. This enables 24 / 7-monitoring and thus more effective maintenance deployments that are easier to plan.
